VaultSort 4.5.0

duplicate findernewsguardianUI

Rebuilds Duplicate Finder as a full-screen workspace with visually-similar image detection and cancellable scans, makes Guardian scan large folders responsively, redesigns the News panel with thumbnails and a What's New tab, and adds split-button option menus to the main action buttons.

What's New

  • Rebuilt the Duplicate Finder into a full-screen workspace. Add or remove the folders to scan, rescan without leaving the view, choose which copy to keep with one click (oldest, newest, or shortest path), and see exactly how much space you'll reclaim before you act. Scans can now be cancelled mid-run and show live progress (for example, "1.2 GB / 8.4 GB verified").
  • The Duplicate Finder can now find visually similar images, not just exact duplicates. Turn on "Find visually similar images" from the Deduplicate button's menu (or rescan from inside the workspace) to surface near-identical photos and screenshots in their own tab with thumbnails. These are advisory only β€” they're never selected for bulk deletion β€” so you stay in control of look-alikes that aren't byte-for-byte identical.
  • Redesigned the News panel. Announcements now appear as cards with thumbnail images, a new "What's New" tab shows the full VaultSort changelog by version, and opening the panel marks everything as read automatically (the per-item dismiss button is gone). New posts also show up promptly instead of being delayed by the background cache.
  • Guardian now scans large folders responsively. Filename-based findings appear almost immediately while deeper content analysis streams in behind them, so a big folder no longer freezes the app with a blank screen. Stopping a scan now keeps the results found so far (the button reads "Stop & keep results"), and re-scanning is faster because unchanged files are remembered.
  • Added option menus to the main action buttons. Organize's mode (Auto or Advanced), Encrypt's key mode (Password or Security Key), and Delete's shred strength (Fast, Standard, or Paranoid) now live in a small dropdown attached to each button, and the buttons share a cleaner, evenly-sized layout.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a very rare data-loss risk in the Duplicate Finder: very large files (over 1 GB) were previously compared using only a sample of their contents, so two different large files could be flagged as duplicates. Every duplicate is now fully verified before it can be deleted.
  • Fixed the Duplicate Finder being able to flag a file as a duplicate of itself when the folders you scanned overlapped, which could have offered your only copy for deletion. Overlapping folders are now handled correctly, and a complete set of duplicates can never all be selected for deletion.
  • The Duplicate Finder no longer downloads iCloud files that are only stored in the cloud just to scan them, and no longer runs a single-folder scan twice or shows a duplicate loading indicator.
  • Fixed Guardian falsely flagging files inside developer tool environments (such as Python virtual environments) as sensitive; those bundled package files are now skipped so real findings stand out.
  • Fixed News panel thumbnails showing as broken images. External thumbnails now load correctly, fall back to the VaultSort logo when an image is missing, and can be enlarged on hover.
